Technical Team Leaders are responsible for the analysis, definition, design, construction, testing, installation and modification of properly engineered information systems, containing software as the major component, to meet agreed business needs. The candidate will work on, but not limited to, the Thomson Reuters Messaging Compliance product.
  • Works on medium and large complex projects that are enterprise wide and require the highest level of expertise and multiple technical disciplines.
  • Work involves leading a team of onshore and offshore developers
  • Ownership of the technical delivery of a specific architectural domain.
  • Contribute key technical expertise, potentially global, which may have a direct material impact on Reuters reputation, and products.
  • Working with on-shore and off-shore development, test and operations staff
  • Accountable for a team's results, or for a project, and takes responsibility for the quality of work delivered. Sets timeframes and schedules to meet customer and business needs.
  • Defining and developing the project scope of multiple complex projects with assistance from the project team.
  • Providing design recommendations, developing and integrating programs per written specifications. Responsible for writing moderate to complex design specifications.
  • Translating business and technical requirements into detailed design specifications for application code and modules.
  • Preparing and presenting status updates for various projects.
  • Developing software application modules using disciplined software development processes.
  • Provides assistance in researching new and emerging technologies. Works with vendors to understand technology. Evaluating new tools, technologies and platforms to be included.
  • Ensuring project process is followed (assignment objectives, post assignment performance reviews, etc.)
  • Identifies ways to improve the operation of own area and to achieve efficiencies and results.
  • Provides technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to application development teams.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 6 years development experience. Experience must include complex architecture and design responsibilities
  • Minimum of 3 years leading/mentoring a team of 5 or more software engineers
  • Requires in-depth experience and understanding of multiple programming languages
  • Complex Programming primarily in .NET languages C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server and other .NET technologies such as XML and Web Services with understanding of Server Side / Back End Applications.
  • Experience with Database Design and Programming using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005. Including optimizing database schemas and queries.
  • Understanding of Service Oriented Architecture
  • Hands on experience with designing scalability solutions and performance improvements
  • IIS / Web Farming experience a plus
  • Solid hardware and networking skills for Windows Server 2003
  • Candidate should have experience with deployment and support of large-scale production quality applications
  • Multi-Threaded Application Programming
  • Messaging / SIP and Live Communications Server experience a plus
  • Engaged in innovative concepts and programming techniques on how to develop high quality software and still maintaining shorter time to market (e.g. Agile and Extreme Programming (XP))
  • High awareness of customer service
  • Financial markets experience a plus
  • Very Focused and Challenged
  • Java, C and Open Source technologies experience plus
